The thermochemical battery technology is targeting grid scale energy storage in, specifically, renewable energy generation technologies. These technologies (e.g. solar) generally suffer from not being able to supply energy during "off" hours and require large batteries to store unused energy for later applications. This battery relies on a thermochemical process that generates heat (~1500°C) based on chemical reactions with oxygen at high pressure (20 bar).
