MSU Research Foundation Welcomes Eight Startups to Incubator Facilities

The Michigan State University Research Foundation welcomed eight startup businesses to incubator facilities in the Lansing capital region and Grand Rapids. Companies specializing in sustainable materials, robotics, and hydrogen technology add to high-tech innovation ecosystem.

EAST LANSING, MI — The Michigan State University Research Foundation welcomed eight startup businesses to incubator facilities in the Lansing capital region and Grand Rapids between April and June of 2024.

Joining the startup community at The Alliance Building in the University Health Park in Lansing is:

  • Citrimer is a chemical manufacturing company dedicated to creating sustainable polymer materials using plant waste as the primary source.

Joining the startup community at the Technology Innovation Center (TIC) in downtown East Lansing are:

  • Beginner Conscious Cosmetics develops beauty products that provide better representation for people with traditionally hard-to-match skin tones.

  • PharmaBlue Labs develops medicated skincare products to treat under-researched skin conditions, combining scientific excellence, empathy, and sustainability.

  • TAIEN E&D designs and manufactures robots for the food service industry, enhancing efficiency, reducing manual labor, and improving workplace safety.

Joining the startup community at the VanCamp Incubator in East Lansing is:

  • AmHyTech is a supply chain company developing technology to convert ammonia into hydrogen for safe and sustainable storage and transportation.

"We welcome this diverse group of companies into our innovation ecosystem, representing various industries," said Jeff Smith, Director of Research Parks. "While the impact on our regional economy may not be immediately visible, these companies—our neighbors, friends, and family—are crucial in lifting it up."

Joining the startup community at The Bridge incubator in Grand Rapids are:

  • BluLateral is a personal device that produces wireless rhythmic patterns to help relieve anxiety and stress, syncing with an app for enhances support.

  • Reel Free has developed a medical device that automatically reels in oxygen tubing, increasing mobility and reducing fall risks for seniors, addressing a major cause of injury in nursing homes.

  • VPEd is a platform that connects speech therapy students with real patients for clinical training and curriculum, with potential to expand to other clinical training fields.

"We’re excited to support these three new MedTech startups joining our growing community,” said Kyle McGregor, Director of Venture Creation. “They represent just a fraction of the work being done to expand the tech community in West Michigan. We look forward to being a part of their entrepreneurial journey and are here to assist them in finding new solutions to complex problems.”

These four incubator facilities are designed to support emerging companies and research groups, with comprehensive startup programming and services provided by the MSU Research Foundation:

  • VanCamp Incubator is located in Meridian Township, near Michigan State University, offering 22,000 square feet of office and wet lab space for life, bio, and physical sciences companies.

  • The TIC provides a 7,000 square foot collaborative workspace and resources for tech startups in East Lansing, featuring 19 offices and two conference rooms. It is operated in partnership with the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) and the Lansing Regional SmartZone.

  • The Alliance Building is located in the University Health Park in Lansing and features 68,000 square feet of office space, wet labs, high-bay warehouse space, and ITAR-compliant access controls.

  • The Bridge incubator is situated on the fourth floor of the Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Building in Grand Rapids, offering 19,400 square feet of office space and collaborative work environments.
