Dr. Thomas Glasmacher, PhD
Thomas Glasmacher, PhD, oversees the 630-employee Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) Laboratory at Michigan State University, managing the FRIB Project with full responsibility for its design, construction, and transition to operations, ensuring safety, cost-efficiency, and environmental responsibility. Joining MSU’s National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory in 1992 as a fellow, he became a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, with over 200 publications in intermediate energy nuclear physics, earning the Sackler Prize in 2006. As NSCL’s associate director for operations from 2003-2009, Thomas led the team that secured the FRIB proposal and has directed the FRIB Project since its inception, guiding it through critical design and construction phases. He has served on the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee, is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and holds a Stanford Project Management certification, with MS and PhD degrees from Florida State University.
